What AI Is Actually Doing in Beauty
The applications showing up in the beauty industry right now fall into a few categories. Skin and scalp analysis tools that use imaging to identify concerns a stylist might miss visually. Consultation aids that help translate what a client shows on a phone into actionable technique decisions. Inventory and scheduling tools that reduce administrative friction and free up time for actual client work. Color formulation databases that help stylists track results, note how specific hair reacts to specific formulas, and build better systems over time.
None of these replace touch, judgment, or the kind of intuition that only comes from years behind a chair. They extend and support it.
Where the Human Element Is Irreplaceable
A consultation is a conversation — about confidence, about identity, about what someone is going through in their life and how their hair fits into that. No algorithm reads the pause when someone says "I just want to feel like myself again." No tool replaces the relationship that builds over months and years of appointments, where I already know how your hair behaves in humidity, which toners land beautifully on your specific level, and what you mean when you say "not too much."
The emotional intelligence, the creative intuition, the accountability — those are not features that can be scaled or automated. They are the work.

My Take
At The PVD Hair Edit, I stay curious about what is evolving in the industry and bring that knowledge forward when it makes sense. I am not running a tech-powered studio. But I do believe in staying informed, thinking critically about what the industry is becoming, and making decisions about what belongs in my work and what does not.
What will never change: you, in my chair, having a real conversation about your hair. That is where the actual transformation happens.
